Measuring whether marketing worked. Attribution is genuinely hard, and being honest about that is itself a hiring signal.
Time to useful
2-4 months to competent
Marketing analytics is measuring whether marketing worked. Attribution is genuinely difficult, and being straight about that difficulty is itself a hiring signal — the people most certain about which channel caused a sale are usually the least worth believing.
Deciding before a campaign what would count as evidence it worked, instrumenting that, and then reporting the result including when the result is inconclusive. Much of the day-to-day is less glamorous: checking that tracking still works after someone changed the site.
Whether you set up measurement in advance or reverse-engineer a story afterwards. And whether you know the difference between a correlation visible in a dashboard and a result you can act on. A candidate who can describe a campaign that did not work, and what they learned, is demonstrating something rare.

Employers expect the fastest growth in AI, data and cybersecurity roles, and the steepest decline in clerks, cashiers and data-entry work.
A trial with 758 consultants found AI raised quality 40% on most tasks and cut accuracy by 19 points on one. The edge between them is invisible.
The best adoption survey anywhere found 18% of US firms using AI in a business function, and only 2% reporting any AI-related fall in headcount.
A survey of over 1,000 employers expects 39% of core skills to change by 2030. That is lower than 2023, and reading and writing are on the decline list.
